Has any one ever put power steering on a 1960 fordson dexta? If you have and would like to share the information or some pictures, this old country boy would like to see it or hear about it. What about you burrhead have you ever done this. I was thinking about doing some engineering on it this winter if I could figure out a way that would look right. Capbuster

I recently purchased a 1954 (Feb) Fordson Major Diesel off the Web. When it was delivered it had power steering on it to my surprise. I don't know much about it but it looks original (maybe just been there a while). I also was surprised when I went to set the timing. The timing gear was located at the rear of the oil pan as later versions were but the oil pan had the cut out like the earlier version. Burhead you have any about on it?

Capp the only ones I ever saw put on a Dexta or Super D was taken off a 196? IH 2 ton or so model.

I've seen the conversion done by the Ford dealer and it was just almost the same way.

They took the steering rod off the left side wheel and replaced it with the double tie rod eye setup. That way the tie rod crosses under the engine like a 3000 or 4000 used to be.

They put the steering cylinder in line of the left steering box arm and took the right side steering box arm off.

I'm gonna look for a pix on some of the parts sites. I don't know the exact specs on it.

The one thing I do remember very well is that you'll need the crankshaft pully off of a newer model Ferguson for the extra belt on the steering pump.

Just a comment , when I purchased my Super in 1963,power steering wasn't even offered on the Dextas. It was however available as a $50. option on the 35 Fergies and most farmers at the time thought that too expensive! How time changes !

LMAO- we had p/s on a 35 with front loader. It did'nt come with it we had to carry it back and get it installed. It took about a week at the MF shop and cost around $200 or $300 when they got finished.

The old man I worked for had bought 2 of them to use in corn and bean fields. The other one did'nt have a loader or p/s.

I always planted and laid by with the straight 35. Maybe that's why my arms and shoulders is down with rhumatiz nowadays so bad.

I did'nt have p/s or ac on my own pickups till 86 or so. Now I can't handle it. If the ac don't work I have to rebuild it before the truck is used much.

Hey Burrhead , I know what you mean with the ruhmitiz. I wish I had a dollar for every load of you know what that I've loaded with the old super. By the way , that old Freeman loader was puchased new ($150.) for our new TEA Ferguson in 1954 , then modified for our Dexta gas, then mounted on the Super Dexta. We've replaced the bucket twice and the third time , I adapted a bucket from the Ford one arm loader for it and she's still going strong. I guess we've got our money out of her eh!

Yep you may get your moneys worth fore it wears out.

I got a wild hair last year and called the local Ford dealer to price a new loader installed on the old 3000.

He did'nt stammer or stutter abit when he said the price would be $4300 for a Bushhog brand installed.

I decided I don't want a new loader for it.
