Dear all,
the fuel lift pump on my diesel dexta is leaky and drips fuel. I have decided to replace the pump and wondering if there is any specific procedure for replacing the pump. My tractor has a pnuematic governer. I have the I and T workshop manual but it doesn't have a lot to say about removal and replacement of this part.

Is it jst a matter of undoing the two fuel lines, undoing the two mounting bolts and reverse for mounting the new one?

Thanks in advance,
Damon

Following on from Paul's post, rebuild kits containing a new diaphragm, valves, and gasket, etc are available. Whilst you have the pump off it might be an idea to rebuild it - definately cheaper than a new pump.

Peter, I purchased a new one. Here in Australia a company called Bareco provides quite a lot of engine parts for a range of older tractors. The pump will only cost 45-50 doolars Australian (About about 16 pounds). I thought it easier to get the new pump just in case anything else was wrong with the pump.

yep just be sure the lift arm is on the right side of the cam lift and to use a new mounting gasket or silicone it good..

Burrhead, thanks for the help. Is it easy to see which side of the cam the lift arm goes on?

yessir. You'll see the wear mark on top side of the old arm. It's like a car fuel pump. Besides that the arm will be flat on the side towards the lift cam.

I always hold the pressure off the arm with the hand lever as I seat it. Once it's sitting on the mounting studs the pump should have pressure against the arm that makes it push the pump body downwards against the lift arm.

Burrhead,
successfully changed the fuel pump on Saturday along with oil and filters.

Thanks for your help,
Damon

Are you sure it needs replacing Damon? Mine leaked like a sieve before I tightened the screws that hold the body together. Now its fine. I seem to have found quite a lot of nuts, bolts & screws that have been loose on the old girl since I got her. Am wondering if it's unique to the Dexta's that she vibrates alot of fixtures loose. It might be worth a try before You spend your hard earned cash on a replacement. Just a thought. 8^)

Paul,
I ordered a new one already. The Bareco ones are not too expensive ($45-50) and I thought it was easier and safer to just replace it. The tractor is getting a lot of use at the moment so I want the minium of down time possible.

Thanks anyway.
Regards,
Damon
