Fordson Power Major. For bolts and studs that screw into casings such as "Final Drive", "Engine block", "Clutch & Gearbox Housings", what thread form was used. I need to buy some different bolt diameters and bolt lengths, to rebuild a Power Major I have.
I believe they were manufactured in Dagenham,UK.
Did Ford use SAE or AF or Whitworth or what??
All existing bolt diameters are imperial in 1/16 inch steps, with imperial spanner sizes from 9/16 inch across the flats upwards.
Can anyone help me with this ?

I am a student at Cleveland Community College, Shelby NC, taking Machining Technology and CNC. My Instructor asked the class to do a little research on threads, finding out which kind of thread is stronger(course or fine)? In my point of view is that the course is stronger cause the grooves are deeper but there is lesser material to the bolt which could break easier. But the fine is smaller grooves that could strip out easier and there is more material to the bolt. So which one is stronger??? Any information would help me to deside. Thanks

Hello Les,

All the bolts I have found on my Majors have been SAE standard UNF (fine thread) or UNC (coarse thread). I was able to buy them right at the local hardware store here in the US.
