Material on firewall plate between engine and battery box for Dexta

Can any one tell me if the material ribbeted to the steel firewall plate between the battery box and engine (on the engine side) on the Dexta is Asbestos?

If it's original it's asbestos.

NAPA sells some non hazardous stuff that looks and acts like the asbestos pad does to deflect the heat but I can't think of it's name.

Burrhead do you reckon a man ought to take that off his tractor? I painted mine several years ago pretty heavy, but that's been 13 years ago. I entend to paint it ago this spring. Is this something to be concerned about?

When mine started raveling off I just took all of it off and never replaced it with anything. I would'nt think there is a danger if it's sealed under paint but I would watch out for dust if it starts chiopping.
