Don't know a thing about Fordson diesels, as all we have are gas burners & they are red or flambeau red. BIL got a letter the other day-his picture was in the local paper w/some of our old tracors-& lady wrote to him. She wants to sell her son's Fordson Super Major Diesel for him. They want $1,000 for it. She says it runs good-the son who owns it is a diesel mechanic & has worked on it. She says it has to be pulled to get it started. Haven't seen it yet. What are some of your thoughts on this tractor? Is it worth driving about 50 miles one way to take a look at it? (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Yeah probably worth having a look, obviously theres something wrong with the self starter, but if it pull starts it will start by itself when you get the starter working. This could be as simple as the circuit not connected up or it could be a faulty starter motor. Check it out is my advice, $1000 isnt bad for a super in the US, especially if you could get it repaired fairly cheaply.

The tractor is considered an industrial model with an industrial diesel engine. If it's useable I'd say thats a good deal. I have a 55 and a 56 fmd both are setup as loader backhoes. I like the compression release as I could start mine right up in the coldest temps of this past winter.
