I've inherited a 62-64 Fordson Dexta DieselTractor It was running and being used. I need to know the starting procedure for this unit? There is a key on the side a pushbutton on top [rubber covered]and a
lever and linkage going to the starter.I think there is a rack shut off on the left side as well. The battery seems to be ok but I've been unable to get it to turn over? What is the proper sequence? Any help will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Chuck Burhans

Chuck,
the correct sequence for the starter controls is to pull the starter engagement level on the right hand side towards you. You should be able to feel the starter pinion engage into the flywheel ring gear. You then push the starter button to provide power to the starter motor. Of course you have to turn the key so that the circuit is closed first. My Dexta has had the key removed so I don't have to worry about that step.

Follow the follopwing sequence;-

1. Make sure small tap on induction primer on inlet manifold is open.

2. Insert key, turn on ignition. The red charge light and the green oil pressure light should come on.
3. Move throttle to half open position.
4. Press down heater plug button and keep pressed for 20 seconds. this button is the lower of the two on the right hand side of the tacho.
5. After 40 seconds pump the induction primer on the fuel tap a couple of times whilst pressing down the start lever. The engine should now fire.
