I got around the other day to top up the oils in my 58 Diesel Power Major and discovered that the oil in the main gearbox (the middle one) was linseed oil ( as in window putty!) My owners manual says it should be a standard transmission oil. The oil is at the low mark.

Should i drain or leave well alone?

Isn't linseed oil a fire risk?

Chris.

Chris,

Well, look at it this way... linseed oil is better than nothing in that transmission. Yes, I would drain the linseed, flush with diesel and top it off with any good gear lubricant you have available in the UK.
