when two batterys are run in parallel, positive is linked to positive and negative to negative- this gives you 12volts with more capacity for cranking amps

when two batterys are run in series, positive is linked to negative between the two batterys- if they are 6v batterys you get 12volts- if they are 12v then you get 24v

Options
1. buy two 6v and run them in series
2. buy one large 12v
3. buy two 12v and run them parallel

Never run batteries in parallel!! They will never be at the same voltage. In the best case the one will kill the other, in the worst case, one will explode and kill you.
