Fred: Can you give us a little more information and maybe we can assist you in identifying your tractor. Color, Engine diesel or gas, location of emblems or location of number you are reading may give us a start.

It seems to be an ENGLISH FORDSON "N". The Serial # is 926123, so it must be build in 1943.

Color is English army green. Gas tank has two tank openings, one is marked: 'For starting fuel only'. Wheels are Orange and made of Cast Iron with rubber tires. The rear side of the splash-boards go down to the bottom plate and are fixed to it by rivets.

Engine:
4 cylinders. Starts on gasoline, runs on petroleum (kerosene?)

Magneto:
Placed on the lower right front of the engine. Markings: 'Lucas type SR4 MH1A558 42290B'

Carburetor :
'Zenith AX36 British made'

Fuel glass:
The valve for switching fuel is placed on the fuel glass. Markings: 'Willis England', 'Patent 64313448'

Radiator: Emblem on both sides written vertical and horizontal on frond side: Fordson
Markings on right side 'F2 N6090B'

Our questions are:
Witch are the original colors (preferably RAL coding)?
How to get a manual?
Is it really build in 1943, because some parts does not seems to fit (in fact you need a picture of it).

Fred: Your tractor is indeed a 1943 Model N Fordson. As to the color, it may indeed be correct original paint because Fordson switched to wartime green sometime in late 1939 or 1940. Prior to that Model N Fordsons were all orange from late 1937 until late 1939. From 1933 to late 1937 the Model N was Fordson Blue with orange wheels.

Unfortunately, I do not have paint number information for the wartime green color. Hopefully someone can share that information with us on the forum.

As for a manual, there is no manual listed on the manuals section of this site for the Model N.
There are many more Model N's in Canada and the UK than in the USA. You may very well be able to come up with an original eventually. I have an early N manual I could copy, but not for the later 1943.

Now, concerning the date of manufacture of the tractor... the Engine number indicates the tractor was produced in Dagenham in early 1943. Unless you know the history of that tractor, a later engine may have been installed in an earlier tractor. Most parts should fit however, the Model N engine basically was not changed much from 1918 until 1946. An external mag was added, bore and stroke were changed to increase power and the air cleaner design and intake locations were changed from the Model F in addition to the Fordson being cast vertically down the sides of the radiator casting.

I have a small tool box that was mounted on the front of the tractor. The name "Fordson" is on the top in bold letters. When were they first made?

Thanks

Fred,
Have just looked at your "N". Isn't she a little beauty. Many years ago we had one like this at the garage where I worked, complete with winch and steel front wheels. It was used for heavy recovery and was my machine. It was not used very often and was difficult to start. All you could get out of her was "pop pop" every time. So we used to throw down the handle and make a lot of noise walking away, then creep up behind, rush around the front, pull the handle over compression and away she would go. If you had left her in gear however, she would start first pull over every time and run you out of the shed. Once a neighbour came to borrow her, did not check the gear situation and demolished his ajoining shed as she reversed through the wall.
Just some of the true stories of Henrietta the winch tractor.
Regards

Brian
