I have 61 super major,I had the #3 line shortened by 1 inch, now it is running too rich,it seems the timing is off.It cranks easy, but the power is not there. We bled the lines for air, was'nt the problem. The whole fuel system was bled, same results.Could it be that the shortening of the line could have affected the timing. My major is set at 23 deg.BTDC.Any help would be appreciated, thanks,CW

Have the injector connected to the repaired line tested at a diesel shop. You may have gotten a piece of dirt, or a metal chip from your repaired line in the injector. Better still, have all the injectors tested, and recalibrated, if necessary.

I wouldnt worry about the line. If the tractor is over fueling you will have lots of black smoke. I would suspect the govoner diaphram. That timing is correct for the simms pump.

Thanks steve, but it's not a constant black smoke, but a constant bluish white smoke, with occasional black smoke. This is my first diesel motor I have owned.I have operated 600 series tractors before, but the s\major is more powerfull than those. The tractor was running so sweet until I had the problem with the one f\inj. line.I am confused. cw

I'm not an expert but it sounds to me like the injector itself is clogged. even if the line has been shortened it shouldn't change the pulse of the fuel, as far as timing goes. If the motor surges up and down then it's the diaphram, I know, I just went through all of that!

I think I have found the problem;one of the men working on it broke the bleeder that sits on the lower right side of the injector pump.I just have to take the time to go to our property and install it.Then bleed the system again, wish me luck,cw,jacksonville, fla.
