I have an early super major, 6/61, it has a power major head, disc brakes etc, but you have to turn the motor off to disengage the pto shaft, my book says some FSM had dual clutches, I have access to 4-5 super major and major rear trannies and rear ends, which ones had the dual clutch, and can I easily (without having to make parts) switch out parts to make a dual clutch super?

4wd super to be sold or restored
2wd super being restored/used
many many parts,,,!

Which way is High on your High/Low lever? This is a serious question and it could save you a lot of work.

well I adjusted my clutch out as much as I could and I still do not have a "clutchable" pto,, any suggestions,, I am leaking fluid pretty bad from the clutch area and pto shifter too, I might jut pull it apart this fall/winter and replace all the seals and gaskets and see what is up in there as far as having or not having a second clutch,, is there an easier way to see into the cavern? or is pulling it apart the only way??

thanks
Bob

Bob,
You already have a live clutch in your tractor. I would think that the pin is still in the clutch pedal surround that prevents the clutch pedal from going right down and disengaging the pto clutch. Or the clutch pedal adjustment is out. Should be around 1/2" free play.

You said in your original message you have to switch the motor off to disengage the pto. A '61 Super Major would have had a live PTO when built. Either the adjustment is out or the second stage clutch is jammed.

here is the bad news, I just found out the motor is 61 super, the head is 57 major, the rear end is super (disc brakes) and I hope the tranny is super, I hope they only changed the head,,, the injection pump is from an earlier model, maybe 58,, 7mm somethings, but the rebuilder said the flow rate and amout was the same for the newer7.5mm models,,,??

thanks for your help..

Bob,
Your still OK 'cause in 1957 you would have had the modified engine which was nearly the same as the 1961 Super except slightly lower HP. In 1958 you would have had a Power Major which is the same engine as the Super of 1961. The pump would be the same from 1958 to July 1963 when they changed to the Minimec. Transmission and hydraulics are definitly Super if you have disc brakes.
