6 cylinder engines were not a factory fitted unit so this tractor has been modified. A number of engines could have been used so more information is needed before we can comment.

On the whole, if a good conversion took place, the rear end can take most of what is thrown at it. I have seen a standard rear end fitted with a Rolls - Royce Merlin engine of around 1500 HP that was used for tractor pulling with no problems.

Bob,
The Super 6 4WD was not a Ford tractor. It was made by County Commercial Cars in Fleet, Hampshire, England and was a modified Fordson Super Major. The 6 cylinder fitted to this tractor was a truck based industrial engine. They also converted the Super Major without putting a 6 in and called it the Super 4. A number of dealers and other companies fitted 6 cylinders to the Major back end inc. Roadless Traction, Matbro and Ernest Doe. A local dealership fitted a number of 6 cylinder units for vegetable harvesters into new Super Majors but Ford themselves did not build a 6 cylinder Major. It is possible that they sold some of the conversions by others under their name.

The 6cyl. engine is 330 cu.in. and 108 h.p @2200or2400rpm:I am not sure which. It was used extensivly in the English Ford trucks_mainly the Thames Trader series and the later "D" series Fordsapprox.1959_tomid 60"swhen tdiplacement was increased to 360,and363 in an "inclined"version. They had an aluminum oil panunlike the cast onein the original equip. 4 cyl. super majors and they didnt bolt directly up.The cast pan was used as it was necessary to add to the integrity of the tractor as well as being a support and pivot point for the front axle.Nearly all of the 6cyl.s were after market or manufactured by other specialists and were 4wd,s thus eliminating the need for a lot of structural mods in the pan area.

was there an adaptor plate that went between the tranny and motor, or did it happen to bolt right up? what/where did these motors come from ? are they around today?

From what I've read in previous posts, the six cylinder engine bolts up to bellhousing, no problem. (As you may know, the original Fordson engines were made from cut-down six cylinder truck engines in the first place.) The other guys have made new cast iron oil pans by cutting and welding together 3 of the oil pans from 4 cylinders. The 6 cylinder engines have been commonly used in Ford Claus and Ford New Holland combines.

According to Stuart Gibbard's book, Ford of France offered 6 cylinder variations of the Ford 5000. These might be interesting to take a look at. These were conversions made by EVA in Belgium (Willy Everard, Andenne, Belgium) These were ordered by the Ford company and sold through Ford dealers in Belgium, Germany and France. Nedalo of Uithoorn in Holland sold conversions for the Super Major using the 590E engine. Stenderup maskinforretning ApS (Sweden) built the Super 6 with 401 engine. This was a two wheel drive tractor. The 401 engine was used in the 8600 tractor, but in this case was mated to the 7600 back end. Built in the late 1970s. The book says County and Roadless also built a few 2wheel drive tractors with 6 cyl engines for export only. Ford opposed this because the transmissions couldn't take it, and they competed with the standard 7000. J. J. Thomas kept doing the conversions, but had to buy second hand tractors for his raw stock. About 100 were sold. The Doe used Ford 5000 with the Belgian conversion parts and a County heavy duty clutch, but got away with only a handful before Ford stopped them. There were a lot of others on a small scale basis. They used the power for pto work and for fast running on the roads.

I do not know where to get any parts for it other than the normal venues, the injection pump can be rebuilt at a diesel shop, the injectors same, gasket /make, rear ends etc are the same as far as I know, but the pistons and crank cam etc, is going to be tough, maybe canada or brits,
where are you/it?
