On my 1956 Fordson Major Diesel some of the nipples are either missing completely or have broken off, meaning I can't grease these vital points like the wheels. The nipples are not screw in. It looks like they are pressed in or something. Where can i get replacements ?

Ian, Now that you have the hole open, measure it by slipping the shank of a drill bit in the hole. Also measure the depth or the amount of material you are passing thru - for a drive fit nipple it should be a minimum of 1/16 inch or so, up to about 1/4 inch or.250. Then compare the available nipples. Remember to only use an angled drive fit nipple wherever nothing else works- they fall out too easy. Clean with alcohol or like solvent, use Loctite on nipple. Hope this helps.

Napa has press in fittings. You can drill out the old ones.

I have some out in the barn but I took them out of the box. I would guess you need the drive fit kind. If you like I can stop at the napa and see if there is a brand name on them. I think napa repackages them with thier name on them. You could use a grease needle. It is pointed and tapered atachment for a grease gun. This is what I use to grease ujoints when you can't get the regular fitting on. Napa has these also, but that does not help much does it.

someone suggested to me drilling a thread in the hole where the nipples go, so that a new nipple could simply be screwed in. The only trouble is the hole is already quite big and i am not sure if a standard nipple would fit it. I am trying to find more information on this ;p

okay i measured the hole for the nipple and its 3/10ths of an inch. It needs a straight nipple (with no thread). Any ideas where i can get one of these ? :P

I had a chance to stop at the napa today. They had 3 sizes of drive type fittings 3/16",1/4" and 5/16". They come 5 in a package i think and are $4.47 US. 5/16" is 0.3125". They are in a napa box so I can't tell who made them.

If you can't find any over there let me know. I could send them to you.

Don you're a star :) If i cant find any here i'll give you a buzz soon. Much appreciated. I think 0.3125 is the right size. But i need something more accurate than just a simple ruler to measure it :P
