I recently purchased a 54 Major Diesel that has been partially disassembled and sitting under roof for 25 yrs. I thought it would be a good father-son project as he is a diesel mechanic and loves the old equipment. When we removed the head we found 2 bent push rods on 1 and 3, removed the pan and could not find any reason, turns over by hand fine. Also both end of the injector pump have seeped a litte oil over the years. Should it be filled? Is there anything we should do before trying a startup other than a visual check changing fluids etc.? I love this site!

You might want to do a compression test once you get new/straight pust rods.

Good Luck
