Dick there's a brass gear in the rearend an if you pull to start it when you let the clutch out and your on hard footing you'll snap that gear in two.On those rear ends if you jack it up and turn one wheel one way the other goes the opposite. There's only two thing it needs to run: fuel and spark. The fuel line that runs to the float esembly that needle valve should be open 1/1/2 turns. The air breather needs liqued in there for it to allow the carb to get air OR take the top cap off and put a stick in the hole to hold those floats up.Fordsons fload with fuel easily and won't start.Choke it for two cranks and take choke off.Check spark plug for fuel,if its wet than it's spark that's your problem.Good Luck!! Dick, the procedure to start the F is: make sure the gearshift is in nuetral, turn on the fuel, lift up on the spark advance two notches, ingage the crank at the bottom and pull up [keep your thumb on the same side as your fingers] never wrap your thumb around the crank handle because if it kicks back your not able to release your hand from the crank.Another way is to start it using the belt pulley if you have another tractor with the pulley, you put one turn in the belt so the engine turns over the right way.Goodluck WILL

Dick H,
I know it has been awhile since you posted this, but if you still did not get that Fordson running I would be glad to help. Between my myself, Dad, and Brother we have over a dozen running fordsons. We have seen allmost every posssible problem you can think of. The way it just putts for you I bet it is something simple (maybe a stuck valve or ignition problem) Let me know if you still need help.

Hi Steve, I'm working on the 1925 Fordson for Dick H. The book says that the spark advance is suposed to be horizonal to the right of the tractor and the linkage wouldn't allow it to do that, plus when you advance it, it would raise it up. It would fire like backwards and blow back through the water air cleaner, blowing water out.
I disconnected the linkage because I wasn't getting anywhere and turned the advance down.(I'm going by where the rod hooks on it) it quit blowing back and was even trying to run, but we run out of daylight.
I took the vaporizer apart earlier and cleaned it out, there was only one plate in there with a brass pipe type screw that screwed in the exhaust manifold and one on the cover plate with another pipe type screw along with the fuel jet.
I think I'm going in the right direction but I would be thankfull for any help you could give me.
I would even like to call you if you don't mind.
Thanks, Mike, grshoper@ctaz.com
