hi , how do you solder the stud going through case to fields without hurting the insulaters or fields I have tried solder gun , butane torch, and propane torch, propane works the best but I melted the insulaters between case and stud. help thanks Pete in Michigan

Use an old-fashioned soldering "copper", or find a soldering iron tip for your propane torch. In case you're not familiar with the soldering tip attachment for a propane torch, it's a brass cage that slips on top of you torch tip, and has a chunk of copper sticking out, that's wedge shaped. It allows the use of a propane torch for lots of heat, but avoids a direct flame on the workpiece.
