hi all, i looked at the dexta today he is asking $1200. here's the story...the old man has had the tractor for a few years, been cutting 5-6 acres in south louisiana with it. he said 8-9 months ago it used to crank easily and run with no smoke. approximately 8-9 months ago, he changed the inline fuel filter, after he changed it he said it would not start(he guessed he didn't bleed the line). so he used ether to crank it, it ran as usual but the next time he went to crank it wouldn't start again, so he used ether again, it cranked ran well. but the next time he tried it still wouldn't crank on its own, and then it wouldn't even crank with the ether, so he threw the ether away thinking it had ruined his tractor after just 2-3 uses. since then he has pull started it 2 -3 times after pulling 400-500 feet. he says after pull starting it, it still ran well with no smoke. I went to crank it today. I pulled the injectors first to check compression, cyl 1=90lbs,cyl 2=100,cyl 3=200lbs. now these pressures were after a single stroke, after multiple strokes they topped out at cyl 1=100, cyl 2=115, cyl 3=200lbs. the wiring was all cut up, rewired, and taped(the solenoid handle and switch didn't work) so i had to jump the starter with jumper cables to get it to turn over while holding the solenoid handle down. I replaced fuel, bled lines, topped off water, then attempted to crank. Nothing. tried a little wd40, still nothing. had a flat so i couldn't pull(getting the tire fixed now to go back) my question... what else can i do to crank? whats the probable cause? does this tractor sound like a keeper for $1200? I have another $800 to get it running good, Does it sound like i can get it running good (not restored) for $800? also, the pice that bolts on to the front of the engine with a hose that connects to the water pump had a crack in it, that let water come out, the front looks like it took a hit once on the shroud/radiator area, could it be a hit or caused by over heating? thanks for all the help so far, i have learned a ton just reading past posts. i owned a few tractors before, 2 were masseys with perkins eng's. i was hoping the dexta would be a good bet with the 3cyl diesel.

My rebuild kit which came with new 152 liners and piston, bearings, seals, etc came shipped to my door (Walts) for $430.
My machine shop cleaning, liner removal and replacement, head rework, etc was $325.
I redid my injectors. I came in with new hoses, filters, and the whole works for $950. $800 is do-able minus the new hardware I bought.
