I plan to put a new head gasket on my Fordson Super Major soon because it is getting water in the oil. I have read that the o rings should be changed. I am not famalier with these. Where are they located, what is the diamiter of these, how difficult are they to change and where can I get them. I have a shop manual but can't find anything on them. thanks for any help.

The answers are all correct but if your major is not doing too much work and you know it is not the head gasket put a can or two of block sealer in the water it will most lightly stop the leak .Mine has a chip broken out of the block where the ring groove is at the bottom of the liner and it has been ok for the last 5 years with sealer

98% of cases where water gets into the oil are caused by the O rings at the bottom of the sleeve. You will need to remove the pistons and sleeves to change them. You will then have a 90% chance that the bottom of the sleeves are pitted so bad that they need replacing. When this occurs I usualy just buy a in chassis rebuild kit with new pistons and sleeves, its more cost effective.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Gary, when you get the sleeves pulled out, get at the groves in the block and thoroughly clean all the scale out. A small screwdriver or O-ring pics work good. If this machined slot is not cleaned out properly you can almost guarantee a leak even with new O-rings. If you find the O-ring groves to be severely corroded, don’t start looking for a new block. Get some good RTV, “ I prefer the gray RTV” work it into the grove, then install the O-ring and work it into the RTV until it seems to be bottomed out in the groove. Wipe off excess, and let it set overnight. When installing the sleeve lube it where it contacts the O-ring and set sleeve in place. You may have to get some bolts and washers to pull the sleeve down into the O-ring.
I have done this several times and have not had a leaker yet!
