Hi
I've got to move an E27N about 200 miles and need to know the shipping weights for E27N Petrol/Kero & Diesel. They are on rubber but knowing the shipping weight for steel would be nice as well.
Cheers Brad

Hi Brad,
My owners manual lists steel wheels dry weight at 1860 kg and rubber at 1800 kg for the E27N Petrol/Kero. I suspect that these weights may be wrong for Ausie tractors as they used different wheels to the English ones and the book refers to the English wheels. Watch out though, if the tractor has water in the rear tyres as was very common practice on a lot of farms you could be moving anything up to 2300 kg. The water in the radiator adds about 45 kg as well. These figures probably don't include 3 point linkage, and trust me that isn't light after having pulled mine off recently, probably a good 50 to 60 kg as well. I have no data on the Diesel, but I wouldn't expect it to be much different to the Petrol/Kero. I have a similar problem, but my E27N is dead and it will come home in pieces over a couple of trips to make the towing easier.
Regards, Frank.

Thanks for that. In Australia we have ridiculous road laws that say unless you can afford to buy a $10000 trailer with air/hydraulic brakes with breakaway safety you can only haul 2 ton. Looking at what you've told me I can just sort of legally tow it.
Thanks Brad

Hi Brad, You obviously don't live in Victoria. It is 1500 kg for us, hence my E27N comes home in pieces. It's no great drama though, I have to strip it to fix it any way, but I am already on the lookout for a small truck to cart it around later. An old clapped out Toyota would do fine and it would be one heck of a lot cheaper than the trailer.

Regards, Frank.

Brad, I think you will find that the maximum weight that you can tow without expensive brakes is 2000kg including the weight of the trailer. I have had the same problem, I pulled an E27N home on a car trailer but found out later that it was not legal. It is cheaper to buy an old truck than a suitable trailer but then the registration is high , perhaps better to hire a truck if you are only doing it occasionally, or get a contractor. Last time I shifted a Farmall M I hired a tilt tray and Driver and this was cheaper than hiring a truck and driving it myself

I would be a bit careful lads, those Fordsons weigh more than 2 tons, especialy the Aussie ones if they have those cast wheel centres. closer to three. I originaly carted my Super Major on a three ton truck and it was not pleasant. I would go for a 4 tonner to give a bit of breathing space.

I tow a Super Dexta with a slasher behind my AU2 XR6 ute, legal for up to 2300kg in Victoria. I would never put a Major or E27N on a tandam though unless it had truck wheels and never tow it with anything less than a decent truck.

I now have a beaver tail truck, 1978 Ford D1211. It fits two Majors on it or one backhoe. Good for up to 8 tons. We fitted a winch to pick up dead tractors. See the pic of it on the classic truck photo section on this site.

Thanks fellas. I live in SA, there is a sale at Monarto soon where 9 Fordsons are coming up. I may have to take the truck & trailer, rated to 60 ton, could probably fit 4 fordsons on it. Probably couldn't afford one of them though.
I am however looking for a CASE L or Case Crossmotor if you just happen to come across one.
I'd give my left one for a decent crossmotor.
Thanks for the input.
Cheers Brad
