The trial of my first tractor..... .I first saw my Fordson in April 2002 and it has taken me up until last weekend to drag it home on the back of a tilt-tray. What was a problem to load it back then was the same on the weekend. The back end just refused to budge. Getting it home and tying it a tree to slide it off the truck was the easy part. Working out what might be the problem is becomming troublesome. I have lifted the back end off the ground, freed up the brakes pulled the nessesssary bits of the moter (she hasnt moved for 25 years) and everything has lasted the test of time well. No water in the oils, minimal sludge and rust in the tank, bolts are freeing up nicely. The back brake drums were a little stuck but I have them off now. The clutch is working and the engine turns over smoothly. (no spark yet....) Heres what the situation is (any early ideas from anyone- expert or wild guesser are all welcome). With the back end off the ground and tractor in neutral, turning one wheel will turn the other in the opposite way (fair enough), but go to turn both the same way and they are stuck fast. It is a 1948-1952 model with linkage and PTO. Does this model have a transmission brake? Can that get stuck on and if so, would it cause this problem. There were no bits in the transmission oil and on a quick inspection trough the cover, everything seems shiny and moving smoothly. Like I said, if anyone has a hint I can use early on, it will give me a bit of hope or determination to get her chuffing again.... or at least get it out from under the tree where I took it off the truck!
