According to my service manual, and the guy at the diesel shop where my injectors are being rebuilt, my injector pump is supposed to have oil in it. However, there is no drain or fill plug. There is no plug on the side to check the oil level. There are no lines going to the engine to indicate that oil is supplied from the engine. Were some of these pumps designed to be cooled and lubricated with diesel only? It has the pneumatic governor if it matters.

The Simms pump on the Major only had oil in as initial lubrication after service. This was diluted as the engine ran and finally disappeared. For its life the pump was lubricated by diesel which after all, is a light oil.

A specific amount of oil is added to a new/reconditioned pump through the side plate.

Majorman,
Thanks for the info. I was hoping that was the case with this pump.

I was told to add a small amount of Diesel to the pump every so often. One of my pumps, on the 1959 PM, someone has drilled, tapped, and fitted a filler plug. There is a drain tube, so I guess you cannot overfill it.I add some to mine every spring

My pump has a bleeder plug above the inspection cover on the side. It was my understanding that the lift pump kept the injector pump filled with fuel all the time? I use the bleeder plug on the pump in conjunction with the manual lever on the lift pump to bleed the air from the fuel system.
