Does anyone know where a fellow may find a wiring diagram for a 1954 Major diesel? For the life of me I can not locate the regulator on the tractor, unless it has been removed. The charging circuit does not work.
Am also looking for a fuel shut off cable.

Tom...I have a '56 FMD and the regulator was behind the instrument dash panel. I also had a hard time finding it. The shut off cable was given to me by a neighbor, but was a universal type cable & housing he said was used on trucks.
Hope this info helps.

Tom, my '55 has the original generator and the regulator is up by the air cleaner on the back side of the battery box. I'm not sure if this is the original location as it is an aftermarket unit. If your tractor has been converted to a 12v alternator system, then yours would be electronic and incorporated into it. If you post your email address I'll send you a .jpg of the wiring diagram. It may be something as simple as polorizing the generator. If you need more info, just ask. Jerry

This tractor is a 12 volt system with a Lucas generator. The generator has two posts, these two wires I traced in the harness up to the key and guages. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom T

Bob, I don't have anything for John Deere Tractors. I'd do some searches on the web for John Deere Tractor groups and I'm sure the information is out there. There's plenty of folks out there ready to help. On the off-chance, you might try calling Faxon Auto Literature (800-458-2734) to see if they do a reproduction repair manual for your tractor. I got a repro Instruction Book from them for my '55 Fordson and it is top notch quality. Lots of luck, Jerry
