Hello,
Greetings from GALWAY, IRELAND My otherwise super reliable dexta has some type of fuel/pump airlock problem.

It will run all day at light work. Yesterday ,while mowing with a bush hog, it began to splutter when the engine came under pressure, either as a result of heavy grass or going up hill. The tractor looses power and dies. I got it going again by bleeding the injector pump. When the tractor comes under any pressure ,the same thing happens. I (partly)overcame the problem yesterday by leaving the bleed screw partially open It only died twice in an hour!

When the tractor starts missing i find it useful to prime the lift pump on the block. Interestingly, when the tractor is misfiring or idling there doesnt seem to be enough pressure in the injector pump to drive diesel out the bleed arpreture.

I have several theories that the experts may be able to advise me on:

1 DIRT in the tank or fuel lines ( however the fuel filter is new) Is there a filter to go into the tank?

2. PROBLEM WITH THE OUTPUT OF THE INJECTOR PUMP

3. dIAPHRAGM(S) IN THE INJECTOR PUMP PERISHED, WHEN THE TRACTOR IS UNDER PRESSURE, , CRACKS IN THE DIAPHRAHM EXPAND AND SUCK IN AIR CAUSING THE PROBLEM

4.All of the above

5. none of the above.

Please advise! Thanks

Henry

Henry,

I would suspect nothing more than a blocked tank filter. This is in the fuel tap and you have to drop the tap to clean it.

To prove it. Disconnect your line from the tap to the pump and see how fast the fuel flows. Should be pretty fast.
