I know that the Fordson Diesel majors eventually became the Ford 5000 here in the US. Does the newer 5000 engines bolt into a diesel major bellhousing? Also, I know that a few of the Diesel Majors came with a six cylinder engine in them, does anyone have any info on the setup? Thanks

The newer 5000 engine does not bolt up to the Major.

The engine from the Major was shared with the British Ford truck range from 1957 to 1964, the Ford Thames Trader. These trucks had the 4 cyl diesel and gas engine as well as a 6 cyl engine on the larger trucks (4 and 5 ton). 6 cyl was standard on 7 ton trucks.

The 6 cyl is 330 cid and is basicly the same as the 220cid engine used in tractors. These engines were NEVER fitted to tractors by Ford, but were fitted in conversions by County and Roadless.

Later 6 cyl engines were 360, 365, 360 turbo and 380 CID, all will fit the Major. These engines were fitted to the English D Series trucks and New Holland Combines. If you search the Truck pages of this site you can see my Thames Trader and D series trucks. Also look at my ford 5000 on the D series truck.
