I recently rebuilt a 24 Fordson and was having some difficulty finding the proper gear oil 600W for the trans and rearend. I was told that GL-5 used for HD truck rear ends would work out OK. Later I discovered that GL-5 has sulfur in it and it would harm the rear end mechanism in the Fordson. Is this legit or Bull. Should I take it out and replace it or just forget about it. Thanks for the assistance.

All Gear lube except GL-1 has sulfer in it as a antiwear agent.Sulfer compounds form sacrificial materials, so wear occurs between the sulferized films instead of the gear teeth. The only problem using a lubricant containing sulfer is that is does not work well in a gear box containing copper. If this is an issue, use a GL-1 oil. (Motor Oil)

I believe the old Fordsons used a brass worm wheel in the drive and that this makes oils containing sulfur unsuitable. I am not certain of this and hope someone else can tell you for sure.
