There is control knob for speed of drop , make sure it is fully out , it is located behind your left knee . there is also a lever with 2 positions on one side under thev seat , try both positions . the super major hydraulics are a little tempermental obviously the lift only works with the PTO engaged , it will not power down so the last option is a sticky valve in the top cover . simple to remove but heavy . there are some o rings which need renewing , near some springs , memory hazy but it is easy

Liam, good luck with the lift problem. I posted a similar problem below and did not receive a response. I like the Fordsons but don't seem to get a lot of help here. Garry

My Super Major does not have a lift but I am pretty sure these units are power up only and depend on implement weight to pull back down. It is of course possible for them to either jam or fail to bleed off the oil to permit lowering. If not jammed, I would imagine that it would lower over a period of days with a heavy weight on it.
I do have a service manual but it doesn't have anything on troubleshooting the lift. Hope someone else can help more.

My Super Major has stuck in the up position many times. I weigh 230lbs and have stood on it to lower it or simply drag some weight around on a chain. As for the "no lift up" you might want to make sure you have the right fluid viscosity. Other than that, someone else might have some experience with rebuilding the pump as both of my Fordsons work ok on the lift and have not had to work on the pump yet.

I only have experience with my own 1963 FSM which would NOT raise. My troubles were primarily the unloader valve being stuck. Stuck wicked tight too it was. I managed to extract it and clean the parts DO NOT FILE, SAND, OR REMOVE METAL, these parts must fit to very close tolerances. Now (about 2 years since repair) it still works like a charm. Clean as much dirt away as possible before removal, lft the cover with an engine lift or such and work clean. I suggest replacing the return filter while all is open. Have you changed the fluid? and cleaned the base plate strainer? Those would not prevent it dropping but odds are that there has been moisture inside. Of couse be sure the piston is free to move in the cylinder while you have the cover up. I hope this helps. Bill S.
