Could I put a 256 diesel engine out of a 5000 in a major 1959 or 60 diesel. Gerry

Going on the theory that if you throw enough money at it then yes you can but I guess for practical purposes I think not,the fitment of a six cylinder ford diesel is more common.

What is the 6 cylinder that is common to put in? Looks like a bigger version of the four.

I have seen several with a Perkins but the most popular by far are Ford's, they are the truck engine, you will need to buy or make a conversion plate, extend the side rails and modify the front axel support struts, its common to see them turned around to the front,if the truck engine sump is steel you can cut it if you need to,aluminum is not so easy.

Just saw one that looks like it bolted right up to the trans without an adapter plate but he had homemade frame rails.
