Charlie. this is a difficult question without having additional information. I wouldn't run out and buy new coils just yet. Has the engine been run recently or has it sat for a few years? Are you trying to start it on the internal flywheel mag? Did you check the plugs and while they were out check the compression? Which manifold setup is on it? Did you check and clean the timer? Give me a little more info and i"ll help you start it, Butch

I HAD IT RUNNING JUST BEFORE LAST WINTER IT WAS HARD TO START AT THAT TIME TO. PUT NEW RINGS, PLUGS AND PLUG WIRES AND CAP. I PUT A 6 VOLT BATTERY ON IT TO GET MORE SPARK. THE COILS DO NOT SEEM LIKE THEY HAVE THE SAME BUZZ SOUND BUT THEY ALL SEEM TO HAVE SPARK. THE MANIFOLD HAS THE BOX FOR KEROSENE AND GAS WHICH IAM NOT SURE HOW TO ADJUST. I DID GET A FEW POPS BUT THAT WAS AFTER ALOT OF CRANKING

Check the spark at the plug to see if they are actually firing. Pull the plugs and ground them on the block. Hook up a battery to the coil box. Ensure that you disconnect the wire coming from the flywheel mag. Now as you slowly turn the engine (easily with the plugs out) you should hear the individual coils buzz and have spark to the plugs. If you have good spark at all plugs ignition should be sufficient to run it. If not we will go from there. Can you describe your manifold assembly?

CHECKED MY COIL AND PLUG AND I HAVE BUZZ AND FIRE TO EACH ONE. THE MANIFOLD HAS ON IT A HOLLEY 295 VAPORIZER . I CAN GET A FEW SPUTTERS THEN I GET BACK FIRE LIKE ITS TO RICH . NOT SURE HOW TO ADJUST IT . WHEN I GET IT TO RUN VERY LITTLE THE MANIFOLD COVER SEEM TO SPIT GAS OUT I DONT THINK IT GET A GASKET? I JUST DONT KNOW ABOUT VAPORIZER

Hi Charlie, The 295 is not my favorite manifold. If it is in good operating condition it works well but can be a problem. You will probably have to disassemle it. The plate has to come off which reads "remove to clean". This in itself can be trouble as the mounting nuts are ussually siezed to the manifold. The cover is VERY fragile as it is a very thin casting. The float bowl is attached by screws from the inside of the cover. Don't remove it unless you have to as they will also be siezed. Under the cover there are two plates with a maze to direct and vaporize the feul. On the back side of the float bowl there is a nozzle which directs feul from the float bowl into this maze. This nozzle flow rate is adjusted with the needle valve on the top of the bowl. Manifold vacuum draws the feul through this vaporizer and into the mixer. I suspect that the plates are clogged or deteriorated and perhaps the nozzle needs cleaning. Parts are available for this manifold but very expensive. If available you might try another manifold to see how she runs. If you are not trying to be authetic you can remove the mixer and make an adaptor plate to bolt on a carburetor to run it, bypassing the vaporizer all together. A lot of guys run theirs this way.

I HAVE TAKEN THE PLATE OFF AND CLEANED IT EVERY THING LOOKS OK. I WILL TRY TO CLEAN THE NOZZEL SEE IF THAT HELPS. SHOULD THERE BE GASKET ON THE PLATE? HOW MANY TURNS SHOULD THE ADJUSTER ON TOP BE OR IS THERE ANY OTHER ADJUSTMENTS THAT I SHOULD MAKE?

Holley called this a "hot plate vaporizer". The plates get very hot very quickly as you can see how thin they are. Dont remove the plate from the cover. The outside plate is attached to the cover, the inside plate is attached to the manifold. The plates serves as the gasket. As you look at the manifold plate you will see bronze hex fitting near the bottom. . This is the lower end of the primary air tube which admits air to aid in vaporization. Ensure that this is clear all the way up to the mixer. Blow it out with compressed air. remove the cover on the float bowl. clean everything . Inspect the needle valve and blow this out through the nozzle. The fitting that you took off to get the cover off is the vapor tube. The vapor leaves the plates at this point and travels up to the venturi in the mixing chamber. Ensure that the tube is clear. All this done you should be ok. Float level is not critical. Set the adjusting needle open 1 1/2 to 2 turns to start. It would help first time around to squirt a little starting fluid down the mixer to help draw the vapor up. Start and run it on gasoline. the correct proceedure was to fill the float bowl with gasoline for starting and turn on the kerosine when running. Let me know how you make out.

Well, if it runs ok once you get it started I guess your getting there. You may be flooding it. Keep it on the battery, maybe your mag is weak. Take the coils to a local model t guy and get him to set them up for you. At this point there isn't much left that I can help you with. Every Fordson starts a little differently and has it's own little quirks. Now that youv'e had it running you'll have to play around with the throttle and choke settings until you find what it likes. I've got a bunch of these Fordsons and each one starts differently. They all have their own personality!
