Are you talking about a Sears tractor or a Craftsman tractor (sold by Sears). In these circles, a Sears tractor was made by AYP, had a fully welded steel frame, a horizontal, cast iron single cylinder Tecumseh engine or Onan twin, and cast iron front axle, and lasted forever. Sears tractors were last badged as Sears sometime around 1982. Craftsman tractors are not in the same league as the old Sears ones. The four speed and three with high/low tranny were almost indestructible. The old three speeds were weak. The new ones mostly have aluminum housings and are typically weak. If you're going to be plowing then spend your money on an older used tractor with cast iron axle, steel frame, and cast transaxle. I wouldn't think any of the new Craftsman tractors would stand up to a lot of abuse (though there are exceptions).
