I have a Bolens HT 20. The tractor and deck are still in great shape but the tractor-to-gear-box shaft has deteriorated. This shaft is a two piece unit. The end that has a true u-joint, and that mounts to the gear box, is still good. The end that mounts to the engine pulley drive, and is a pin/spindle type joint, has "hand-grenaded". I have tried a local bolens dealer but his source says they cannot get him a half or whole shaft. Can anyone help me to obtain one? If not, can you recommend a source or scources for me to check? Thanks, Mark Cameron

I aquired a 1975 Bolens HT20 with no driveshaft. I took the mearurments of the output shaft and the input shaft, the distance between the two and the keyway sizes to a local driveline shop. They were able to make me up a driveshaft in about 3 hours. The price was a little high. $220 but that was due to the cost of the slip joint and the couplers. I had spicer u-joints installed. The only problem I ran into was that the couplers for the size of shafts that they had didn't match my keyway sizes. I was able to talk to my dad and he made me a step key for the output shaft and a step woodruff key for the input shaft for the hydro. Any good driveline shop can make a driveline for you. Hope this helps. But be prepared to have to have some special keyways made. If you need them made contact me and I can probley get my dad to make you some. He is a machinest, which come in handy. Also, originally their was a fan on the backside of the driveline. This is to help keep the hydro cooled. I didn't have a fan so I went to a wrecking yard and found a small 12 volt radiator fan off of a car and mounted it above the end of the driveline angled so if would blow on the hydro. Cost of fan, $10, removed the fenders and a couple small straps of flat bar and a hour of time and I was in business.

You>Link can link up with lots of individuals, and dealers that have spare used parts. Read on for lots more info. I have posted this info previously, many, many times
for others.

Here are several experts for used and new parts, tractors, attachments, and advice:

I purchased some publication reprints from Bruneaus (Medium Tube-frame Tractor Service)-- and scanned illustrated parts lists files from others. You can also
try Garden Way.

I was notified that Garden Way (New York Parent Company) has several phone numbers. These might help you. Parts 1-800-648-6776; Customer service
1-800-437-8686; Tech service 1-800-520-5520.

Local Service or Dealers: To find local Bolens/Troy Bilt service or dealerships, checkout the dealer locator at the TroyBilt website:>Link

Publication>Link Reprints helped me a lot. When ordering parts, I also had opportunity to ask the sellers advice on conquering a particular difficulty.

As I began mechanical restoration (May 1999) of a 1966-year Bolens 1050 tractor with TR-10D engine and several attachments-- I was given much needed
encouragement and confidence in the project from some above. I appreciated those who were courteous and patient with me as I often had several issues /
questions going at the same time. Also many thanks go to individual folks who had some time to lend a few ideas of their own. Thank you BOB P. in Kansas City!!
First real use of the 1050 was with snow blower working well as could be expected with the wet snow.

This has been accomplished on my 1050. Rebuilt engine; clutch; PTO; transaxle has new bushings; All seals throughout are replaced. I saved a great deal of
money along the way by the collective assistance from club members, during the rebuild process. I guess I will paint the tractor and a mower deck when good
weather returns. I have several attachments and seek more.

I have a 18610-02 Light Tiller attachment (I may sell it when I pick up the big tiller); a 18516-02 Snow Blower attachment; a 18449 38 inch mower needs finish
painting and assembly; a 18457 42 inch mower and many parts I must consider, then paint and assemble if possible; and a Brinly-Hardy Series 500 10 inch
agricultural plow.

I hope this helps you as it did me.
