Rebuild AC314 or buy new?

I have an AC314 that blows lots of smoke, and now won't start. The local simplicity dealer says that it will be at least $800 for a rebuild, plus a tune up on top of that. This is an old machine, so I'm wondering if I'm wasting money on it, or should I buy a sabre/scott/ariens type and stop spending money on an older machine. Seems like most new machines in my budget range only have 2 year warranties. I know there is no one "right" answer, but any thoughts would be appreciated. I mow several acres, and it is nice to use the tiller/blade.

Your AC 314 is at least 25 years old. There is no way that a new riding lawn mower will still be working after mowing several acres for 25 years. I think that to put some dollars in the AC and you will be good for another 25 years. Just my opinion. Steve

Hey, the dealer doesn't know crap! it would cost atleast 500 for you to do it yourself. The good thing is that the tractor will surely outlast any of those Scotts or Deere tractors.
