Cub cadet mower?

I was given a 1962 Cub cadet by a friend. After I replaced the battery and stoned the head and replaced the gasket(OK actually I reused it...I don't do that often though) it runs like a champ!!. I have used it all last summer to pull a wagon and this winter(plowing snow, it has a blade I put together off a later series cadet). My question is two-fold. First I have shelf under the seat that runs from fender to fender, this is were I keep the tire chains, it looks factory but I have yet to see one in a picture of this model. Also it has the mounts up front for a mower, the lift arm and linkage is present and includes the front pulley for the belt. What model number mower would fit this, what other years. Are they hard to find? Where could I find one in the Chicagoland (North)? how expensive should I expect them to be? I also have a complete but rough snow blower and recently acquired the correct oringinal front blade, What is thing worth with a fading but still white and yellow repaint? ( It's NOT for sale but just curious) Sorry I got a little long winded!! Thanks!! ..... p

You have an "original" Cub Cadet. They use a rectangular 38" mower. This mowere was used for a few years on the early Cub Cadets. It used a cog belt to keep the blades in sync. It also cuts the grass great. If you look around you might be able to pick up a mower for 100-300 or even free if you get lucky. Originals usually sell in the 300-750 range depending on condition and fully restored or like new ones go for as much as two grand. Good luck: Mike Dane

thanks for the info, I will now at least have an idea what I am looking for. I guess I got an even better deal than I thought I did. Thanks again
