This is to the gentelman who posted a request for help in
finding a 250 Wt gear oil. It was posted a while back and
has disappeared from this web site. If any one knows this
individual, please pass this on. I found the oil listed in a lubrication manual. It is A.G.M.A. (American Gear Mfg. Assoc.) 8A. You will probably have to go to your local bulk oil dist. If you need, I can e-mail you the various oil companies trade name/number for this oil. Rod

Isn't outboard motor lube that you put in the foot of a motor 250 wt.? Seems I saw that somewhere.

I checked my supply and all it says is OMC Gearcase Lube. It looks
like 80-90 W. My Troy Built Tilles takes 140 wt and that's thick.
I hate to see what 250 looks like. While I have no direct information
as a mechanical engineer, I wouldn't recommend that high a viscosity
(250 W) in a high speed gear application like an outboard lower unit.
Extremly high viscosity lubes are used in very very low speed gear
applications where each gear tooth has a high loading and a long
contact time. The very high viscosity prevents metal to metal contact
during the extended high loading conditions.
