We have a Gravley Tractor Mdl LT J11456 I think it's 7.5hp and was made I don't know when. It kicks on our little ranch in Tx but is only good for a few hours then needs service it seems. We need operation manuals and repair manuals so we can start doing some of these services ourselves. Sometimes we can get parts at NAPA Where else can we go?

I would bet that's it's the head gasket or maybe a cracked head. Why else would simply retorquing it get your power back? That seems to rule out valves or carburation.

While your at it, I'd get the Kohler electronic ignition retrofit. Don't mess around with points. They're ancient technology. The electronic ignition module just bolts on the cowl and is a very simple retrofit.
