I am trying to locate any other GEORGE Garden Tractor owners. With several years trying, I have located only one other owner, and 3 tractors. GEORGE's were manufactured in the early 1950's in Sullivan IL by Community Industries. Please e-mail me if you have any info. Thanks

I also have a GEORGE. My GEORGE is either a 1948 or 49, I know this because the motor is a 48 Ultimotor. What is your GEORGE like? Mine has a high and low range & a gear drive that sets inside of a tub. It has two 400 by 8 tires with a 25 lb. wheel weight on each side. The 1948 Ultimotor which is 2.4 horsepower, powers a belt drive to the gears. I also have a plow, culivator, and row maker for GEORGE. I would be interested in getting your phone number so that I could talk, because I too have had trouble finding much out about GEORGE.

I am in the process of putting all the background information on the George Garden Tractor on a disk so that I can forward it as e-mail to all interested. In short form: It started in 1946,coined the phrase "Let George do it".,Slugish sales at first, then developed walk-behinds w/full line of optional tools, with exceptional sales they grew out of there original building, employed 200 people and by 1958 had introduced the equipment know as Snow-bird(snowblower),Earth-bird(tiller),Lawn-bird(riding mower). They operated until Jan.1967 when Yard-Man based in Jackson,Michigan purchased the George Garden Tools Division from Community Industries. Yard-man was eventually sold to Montgomery Wards in 1971 and then in 1975 to MTD Products. The descendants of the founders of Community Industries eventually started Agri-Fab Products and that is a story in itself.Gary Davis gncdavis@frontiernet.net

Gary,

I have a George, purchased new in the early 1950's. It's in rough shape but may be restoreable. I'm looking for a manual, sales brochures, etc. Also interested in what you have learned. Thanks, Alen

Hi, I also have a George 1 wheel that has a Clinton engine and a few rear mount attachments. I actually picked it up about 10 years ago at an estate sale and have been looking at it since. I am getting ready to put it on Ebay but have no idea what I should even try to get out of it. I had it running a few years back and it actually ran really well, email me if you have any information on them or if you know any one that may be interested in it! Thanks, matt

Matt: Do you still have the George? What attachments? Where are you located? I'm in Illinois. Gary Davis
