I have a 1450 w\ hydrostatic drive. I can't get any speed in reverse. I've adjusted the linkage every which way. Can any one help?

Sounds like one of the two transmission netrual buttons is stuck.

These buttons (hydralic valves) release the pressure in the Hydrostatic transmission in your tractor allowing you to push the tractor.

Over time rust forms on the button that causes them to stick in the depressed position.

Do you remember anyone using the transmission nutural lever to push the tractor recently?

Here is an easy fix that usally works on the older 123,125,127,147 models that might work on yours.

1.) Diamemble the sheetmetel at the rear of the tractor to gain access to the top of the transmission.
2.) Look at where the lever contacts the transmission (a piece of metal off the 5/16" shaft that becomes the netural lever).
3.) Soak the area with WD-40 or Liquid Wrench.
4.) A day or so later using a long punch - tap the top of the transmission at the point described in #2. You will want to tap what looks like a 7/8" bolt head - the one with out the 1/4" button sticking up in the middle of it.
5.) If your lucky as you tap the 7/8 bolt head the button will come up.

If your not lucky you will have to remove the transmission to get at the button to remove and fix or replace.

I've heard of individuals cutting holes in the top of the tunnel to gain access and although it will work for this purpose - your left with a hole to get caught in not to mention how bad it looks.

Ed

PS: If your not sure what your looking for I would suggest that you visit your local Cub Cadet dealor and ask him for a copy of the parts list assembly diagram for the transmission.

Does it not go at all or is it just slow in reverse? The above fix would be if it does not move at all. also on a 1450
you just take the frame cover off between the dash and fenders to get to the relief valves. Does the brake pedal pull it back to neutral properly? There is one adjustment that is not easy to see.there is a bracket that holds part of the
linkage that is held to the front of the hydro unit
with 2 bolts. these bolt holes are slotted so the bracket can be moved up and down and this can have a big affect on speed an braking/nuetral operation. the best
way to make this adjustment is to jack up both rear wheels
and loosen the bracket slightly so that you can move
it by tapping with a punch, start the engine, set the
lever in the nuetral pos, and move the bracket up or
down until the wheels stop turning. check setting by
moving the lever and then step on the brake. if the wheels
start to turn, readjust. then readjust the rod that connects
to the hand lever so that when you step on the pedal, the lever
returns to neutral. One more suggestion: if you plan on
keeping the tractor, go to your dealer and get a service manual.
