I have a David Bradley super power with the ball lock clutch and i am having problems getting it set right. The manual says you have to push the clutch lever all the way forward untill the clutch snaps into place for it to work right, but i cannot seem to get it to snap into place. I have ajusted it the way the manual say to and the tractor will go but when you get on a hill or try to do any work with it you have to hold the clutch lever forward to get it to go. Does anyone have any sugjestions.

I don't know what model tractor you have, but if it's one of those with the adjustable handlebars, the position of the handlebars will affect the adjustment of the clutch. Even on the nonadjustable handlebars if they are bent (for whatever reason) it will affect the clutch adjustment. Just a thought.

I still have two of these machines. Clutch adjustments are critical. It sounds to me like your outer clutch backing - the one with the bolt holes in the adjustments in it it not set right. Try tightening it one adjustment and moving the lock bolt. The other possibility is that the clutch rod has gotten too short over time form adjustments. It can be lengthened. I have always had good luck adjuting acording to the manual.

Good luck.

Seth, I worked for sears in 1967 and the old guy who had been there a long time then showed me how to set these clutches up. I can't recall a lot of it but I think there is a disc that the ball runs against that gets a groove worn in it . If you take it apart and turn the disc over so the new (flat) side is against the ball (or are there two?) If it hasn't already been done I think this will help. Sorry I can't recall any more specifics. Bob
