I have a 14HP crafstman riding mower that has a briggs IC engine. The problem I am having is that it will run for an hour then it shuts off and will not restart untill it cools down. Any suggestions?

the points have a pin that pushes them when it gets hot it swells and sticks open.

Absolutely could be a clogged fuel cap breather.
But more important check for mouse nest under the shroud those buggers like to fill up your cooling fins with whatever is available to them causing the engine to overheat. They also like to chew the insulation off mag wires and ground wires. If the mag wire is chewed replace the mag, if the ground wire is chewed tape it so it doesn't ground against the engine.

Am haveing the same problem with a 14 hp kohler.
Runs longer with the hood off,but when it dies there is no spark untill it cool down. Almost like a resetting relay. I can't find one but have a sears man comeing out next wed. (unless i can fix it before then) Will let you know what i find out..

Does it have points? If so then it could be the condensor.

Could be a clogged vent in the gas cap-thus creating a vaccum.
