Shure hope some body can help! I have an ingersol rand riding mower with a B&S engine that doesn't seem to run right. When at about half power every thing is good, but when the engine is revved up to full power it seems to be flooding out, missing & loosing power, especially when I engage the blades. I pulled the fly-wheel to check if the keyway was worn or the key broken. New tune up parts. I'm really baffeled! All comments apreciated! Thanks

Do you have a choke built in to the throttle cable? Such as throttle all the way up is choke position or is it a seperate choke pull knob, what i'm getting at is the choke opening all the way.
Easy check, pull the air cleaner assy. and check to see if the choke valve is streamlined when off.
Also check your oil, is it over full and smell like gas? sure sign of leaking float or leaking needle and seat. If previous mentioned problems not apparent and I'm geussing at what model briggs you have try turning the high speed mixture screw in a little at the bottom of the float bowl and see if it smooths out.

Check these:

1.) Black smoke when it does this?

-- Air filter dirty/air intake restricted.

-- Bad carb. Thoroughly clean and rebuild it, adjust it up right.

2.) No thick black smoke? It could be:

-- Loose/dirty wire connection in ignition. Seen them cut out when vibration from higher RPM makes them wobble.

-- Bad plug wire (see above).

-- Dirt/oil on points, or on block where points are mounted.

-- Sticking/worn point actuator rod.

-- Clogged fuel tank cap vent, fuel line, fuel filter, carb inlet, float needle/seat.

-- Blown head gasket...head gasket leakage...look for areas of oil/gas around outside of head from stuff blowing past gasket. If suspect, pull head and look at gasket for black areas, burned areas. If you have this problem, use wet or dry sandpaper on flat surface and rub head against it to true up gasket surface on head before reinstalling.

-- Sticky/carboned up valves -- Usually the exhaust valve that does this. Sure sign is, it seems to run better when cold, then problem gets worse as it warms up. Pull valves and lap them in with compound. Reset lash.
