Bolens 1556 engine

Hi,

I bought my 1556 a few years ago and love it. I use it to mow about 2 acres, snowblow my 300' driveway and rototill the wife's garden. It is an indispensible tool for work around the house. I noticed the other day that it is vibrating a lot more than normal and the dull thud (knocking) that has been coming from it is getting a lot louder. I have reduced myself (and my son) to mowing the lawn with a 21" push mower until I get this engine problem resolved. I don't want to blow the engine and have no chance of rebuilding it. I would rather put a new motor into it but I have talked to a few mechanics and they said there is no replacement. I was wondering if anyone has been able to retrofit a different motor on this chassis with minimal modifications? I would really hate to get rid of this tractor, everything else works great. It seems like such a waste.

Contact a Troybuilt dealer and they may provide
other engine alternatives. What are the engine numbers off of yours? Fish
