Clogging grass catcher on John Deere

Anybody know any tricks to keep a grass catcher from clogging?

I have a John Deere rider with a rear clippings catcher. I mostly use the catcher to gather mulched leaves in the fall, and it works well for that. But whenever I try to catch grass clippings it ALWAYS clogs at the bottom of the chute.

Perhaps a different blade will provide more oomph? Wax the inside of the chute? Only cut grass on incredibly dry days? Give up?

I usually just blow the grass and it is not a problem, but I am trying to keep one section of the yard like a bowling green.

Thanks for the help guys. You confirmed what I kind of already thought. My in-laws own a Cub Cadet dealership and last night we looked up the parts I need (a 982 uses the same engine) and their cost was more than I can buy the parts retail for at the local John Deere dealer.
Thanks for the help!
Kendall

I had the same problem with the grass catcher on my Murry, now first I cut the grass with the regular shoot attachment and let the clipping dry a day or so then I run around at high speed with the catcher on and it picks up the clippings very nicely..

There are four types of blades available for the newer tractor/mowers, from very low lift to high lift. Only the medium or high lift blades are recommended for grass catchers.

Cut when grass is dry, and not too long. Spray chutes & stuff with silicone.
Stop & keep unclogging. Take the catcher off and let the clippings lie.
