I have been ahving a problem with the mower since one day it just lost power. I turned it off checked it out and restarted it and it ran but very labored.

The next time I went to use it it was very hard for the starter to turn over. It acted like it had 10,000lbs of compression. I took it to the shop and they did a tune up and valve work. I brought it home and guess what! It was doing the same thing. I Have not taken it back yet but I called them and they said it might be the carb! Can this be? If I put a charger on the battery(which is new)and keep trying sometimes it will catch and start and when it does it runs fine just the way it should. What can be causing this and can someone describe the repair to me.

Thanks,
tim.

Tim, is this a "Vangard" engine? I can't tell from your description why the "hard compression", but as for a loss of power... My vangard 16 seemed to be running rich all the time, with a loss of power. I went all through the carb, float and needles included, with no success. Then someone in this forum suggested I go UP one heat on the plugs...(I think it was from 12 to 14.. can't remeber). Wow... what a differece! Like a new engine. I only wish I had the name of the guy who left that note. Thanks, whoever you are. Good luck, Jim

i think that was me brigs had all sorts of problems with these engines they could never run right always fouling pulgs heads ovver heting they almost had a recall on them but i guess they haven't yet we have had brand new stuff come back with the problem you are discribing not just once 5 or 10 times back it's very frustratiog lots of dealers are just to lazzy to stock the right plug my boss sure is if you switch from the rc12yc to the rc14yc it will fix lots of your problems the valves may still be out of wack im not going to say but go to a diffrent store get the new plug and then tell your dealer that you did what brigs sugests that will blow his mind
