My 122 Cub throwout bearing needs replaced. I understand that the engine needs pulled and the clutch disassembled. I am looking for ideas on how to release or withdraw the spring pressure on the clutch plates. Are there special tools or techniques that are used. Any other information or advice on removal of these parts would be appreciated. Any related internet sites would be helpful too. Thanks in advance for any responses.

Thanks for your replies and the information relayed via email. The job went smoothly using a vise to clamp the driveshaft as suggested by several people.

i did mine in a really primitive way i took a old socket that just fit over the driveshaft and notched it out so that it would clear the roll pin and then (heres where it gets realy primitive)i took off the ball hitch on the back of my truck and slide the socket over the shaft and slid the shaft up thru the hole in the hitch where the trailer ball was and then put a small bottle jack under the shaft and jacked it up this pushed back the spring and then you can drive out the rollpin and let the jack down oviously this method requires extreme couthin cause you are pressing a pretty strong spring good luck p.s. as long as you got it apart you might as well replace the clutch disk and pilot bearing and possibli drive pins then you should get another 30 years outta that clutch
