Hi All,

I have a 12hp Briggs on a Snapper mower that has set a long time. I've got it running good, but it uses a LOT of oil. The compression seems good, so I'm figuring the oil ring is stuck. I don't want to have to tear into it, so does anybody have a trick to free the ring up, like pouring something in the gas or oil?

Thanks for any help

Rob

Try some ATF or Marvel Mystery Oil slowly thru the carb while running.

i have seen engines that had good compression rings and the oil ring was worn out....i have used automatic transmissin fluid in crankcase to clean out and free up old engines..you mix it one part trans fluid to four parts motor oil..the atf has very strong detergents in it...i learned this back in the 70,s from my uncle who worked at chicago cab company,,,he told me when they changed oil incabs,,they allways put one quart atf and for quarts of motor oil..... don s
