Where can a guy find a price guide for Garden tractors? I was at a sale today and watched a 10 year old 335 John Deere diesel with 600 hours sell. I did'nt know what it was worth.

Remember my last line of the original message, Mr. G! "...best bang for the buck..." Deere is too high here for what you get, new or used. They think that green paint has some gold in the formula or something. ;-)

I do have to say, I like the X series, tho. I wonder if they are paying royalties to Dan H. for the 4WD idea? Heheheh.

I knew there'd be a detractor eventually! Heheheh. Onan??? HAHAHAHAHA! I live where they used to be manufactured. Let's just say I'm not too keen on them, after 5 years fixing them in a small engine shop.

Gravely is an OK make, I won't say it isn't. But they are higher priced here than a comparable IH Cub Cadet. Best bang for the buck is still the IH Cub Cadet, IMHO.

There are guides out, most of which are used by dealers or auctioneers, and most of which run $65 to $80 a copy.

The short answer is that the JD was worth exactly what the successful bidder paid for it, and not a penny more. No matter what the guides say, prices are all over the place, and often depend more on where you live than the quality of the machine. Example: A Cub Cadet 149 in Alabama sold for $700, I bought one in Illinois for $100. That's a big gap in price.

I saw a garden tractor sales and specification book at a Barnes and Noble book store.
