I have tried unsuccessfuly to adjust the forward/reverse on my bolens tractor. It goes forward at a good clip and cannot be stoped and It has no reverse when pressing back on the pedal. I have tried unsuccessfuly to use the two adjusting nuts according to the directions in my manual. Directly underneath the pedal is a locking nut that locks the pedal to a shaft that goes directly to the hydrostatic pump. I believe this shaft is excentric and as you tighten/losen the nut it moves the shaft forward or reverse I believe this must be a fine adjustment. Tht two adjusting nuts appear to only locate the rod that comes off the pedal. I think that this locates the pedal so that the shaft coming out of the center of it will properly regulate your pump.I have played with all three of these adustments with little or no success. Is there some type of order this adjustment must be done in. Any help would be appreciated. thanks gene

I emailed Gene to see if he had found a solution, because I had the same problem. He said a friend lubricated it with WD-40 and the problem went away. I tried it on my 1502 and it works like new. You would think I would have tried that first. jimmy

I dont know if this will help. I have a HT20 and had a simular problem. On my hydrostatic pump there is also an adjustment on the actuator rod, Yours might have the same. I would start there. Mine would barley move forward and backward and I found a pin on the side that was a bypass that wasn't tightened all the way. I tightened it and tried to move it backwards and it shot out of my garage, almost hit my wifes suburban. Then it would sit and run and then start moving backward on its own. Thats when I found the adjustments on the actuator rod. Now its working great. Maybe this will help.
