Picked up an older garden tiller (5HP) at a good price at a yard sale, had to fabricate an idler pulley system, and the thing works well, BUT it has a tendency to pull to one side when I'm using it. Any idea why it might do this? The tynes seem to be lined up correctly.

Could it be your operating technique? If one side is in "new" ground, and the other is digging where you've already been, it will try to go to the side, especially on a front tine type.

Like "JIM D" has already said check to see that the pin that holds the wheel to the axle has not fallen out...causing it to slip. The opposite side wheel will "push" the tiller to one side. It happened on my Troybilt just the other day! Good luck.

Front tine tiller or rear tine? Check that the drive pins are actually driving both sides of tines(and wheels if a rear tine tiller)

pretty normal with tillers. Engine weight normally doesnt sit centered over tines.....
