Cub cadet has no fire please help !!!!

I have a cub cadet 125 model garden tractor .. It has a kohler 310 12 hp engine .I got it as is ..it looks as though it hasnt run in quite a long time..my problem is i cant seem to get any fire to it .. the coil is new and hooked up proberly .. I need some sugestions to possible problems for not getting any fire...is it possible the points have anything to do with it???? ... any help would be greatly appreciated ...thanks in advance...John

disconnect the wire from the neg. side of the coil and the other end at the points. then run a new wire and see what happens. could be the wire is broken inside the insulation.

Hi John [K301 not 310-typo?] Yes,your points are an incredibly important part of your ignition system. Do this: remove your points cover and very carefully with a razor blade clean any corrosion off of the contacts. Next,loosen the setscrew which allows you to widen or narrow the distance the contacts are from each other[the gap.]. Turn the engine over by hand and set the gap to .020 inch. Now see if spark is present. If not make sure your other ignition components are new or tested to be good. G

i would reccomend you buy an engine service manual and go thru the tuneup procedure....don

Check your points they could be burned or durty Also check the gap Dave.

You first need to start at the battery and run a test light to see where the spark stops. Doesnt matter if coil is new, it no spark in no spark out.
