That is a Wards tractor. The engine is not original if it says Db on it or the gas tank has been replaced. The David Bradley tractors had bigger tires, bigger tranny and a regular car type clutch, not a belt tightner clutch. Those wards are really nice tractors though.

Hi,

I was able to adjust my 165 steering a couple of years ago. From memory, the steering shaft has a round gear that meshs with a toothed sector gear. First adjustment is to loosen a couple of bolts and move the sector gear tight against the steering shaft gear. That didn't do it for me- the steering shaft gear was too worn. I was able to shim the entire steering shaft up a bit with two thick washers. This allowed a new, unworn part of the shaft gear to mesh with the sector gear. That took out 75% of the play.

Hope this helps.

Eric, I think you're speaking of the '70 and earlier tractors (prior to the LGT designation). They had exposed gears which are relatively easy to work with. The '71 and later LGT tractors have an enclosed gearbox of sorts that doesn't lend itself to repair as easily.
