I have a Bolens 1656 Hydro that I was given in June 98'. What a Beast! Definitly built right, cast iron heavy duty Tehcumseh 16 hp engine, adjustable slip rear end. Don't like the foot pedal though. The serial# is 0100521 any idea of what year it is? I have a 44" deck for it too. Any idea of what it's worth? I haven't seen many, are thay rare? It's in good to excelent condition. Thanks in advance for any comments or info.

mine is a l976 model-have had it for years-use snowblower mainly--does fantastic job--only problem is that few places have parts-and they are expensive--wouldn't take $2k for mine

I moved to a new home and the previous owner left me his Bolens 1656, with a massive roto-tiller, cutting deck, snow blade, cart. It's truly a wonderful tractor. I cut a 200 foot path through my woods with the snow blade, and I use it to shovel my 240 ft long driveway. The muffler just blew out tonight. I'm sure I'll end up getting something from the local muffler shop to replace it.

The Bolens produced the 1656-01 in 1973. The 1656-02 & 03 were built in 1976 and the 1656-04 in 1977. That frame style tractor was used from the mid 60's to the late seventies. As I recall, the hydrostats in the tractors built at that time would get a little wear in the linkage and would be quite jumpy. But, I agree with you about it being a beast. I've kept an even older Bolens tractor around here. They don't build tractors like that anymore so as long as I can find parts for it I'll keep on running it. I've used it to push and pull equipment in and out of the barn. It's truly amazing what they will do. One in good shape I would think you would be able to get $8-$900 easy enough.
